Back to the issue of exercise equipment for weightloss, there are many ways to approach it so it might be helpful to organize the best equipment for losing weight.
There are two main types of weight loss exercise equipment.
1)Equipment that mostly helps you burn up calories, and so lose weight, during its use
2)Equipment that helps you burn up fat, and therefore lose weight, in between its use
1) The first type includes cardiovascular equipment. There are many examples of such exercise equipment for weightloss. For example, many people use exercise bikes for weight loss. I use one at home because it just fits into my program.
Several other examples include treadmills, ellipticals and stairmasters. All are effective for losing weight.
However, to choose the better performing ones, you should go for the ones that can switch intensity in a way that mimics interval training. That's to say, ones that alternate intense periods with less intense periods of exercise.
For example, a good treadmill will alternate speed and slope to vary intensity. The exercise bike I use, alternates resistance level.
Obviously, simply using a piece of exercise equipment for weight loss for increasingly longer periods of time will increase calorie use leading to weightloss. But the law of diminishing returns applies here. As you increase your time on the exercise bike from 40 to 50 minutes then to 60 minutes, you will lose a little more weight but not much more. Your results will plateau.
For real results, it would be better to increase resistance from 12 to 14 then 16.
2) The second type of weight loss exercise equipment is the kind that increases strength, builds muscle. In fact, one reason why alternating resistance on cardiovascular machines is very effective for weight loss is that doing so also helps build some muscle.
In fact, for real weight loss, equipment that helps build some muscle is superior to the fitness machines that everyone takes to be the best exercise equipment for weightloss.
So if you want to lose some weight and fat, make sure to get or use strengthening equipment.
Some obvious choices include the many machines designed to increase muscle of legs, back, shoulders and chest.
Especially, go for the ones that work larger muscles like legs and back.
These machines are available in gyms while being pricey for consumer buyers.
A poor man's version of such machines are exercise bands or resistance bands. Actually they are quite good and can be effective for weight loss if you use them correctly. I use them to supplement my workouts.
But the best weight loss exercise equipment remains - drum roll → WEIGHTS. Dumbbells and barbells. The golden oldies.
Weights have many terrific features which make them the best equipment for building muscle and therefore losing weight.
First, they are true. The weight never changes. Machines with resistance changers can miscalibrate. Bands can stretch Weights stay the same.
Also, weights force the balancer muscle cells to work and adapt. That suggests that some of the changes in musculature are not even noticeable but still effect fat loss and weight loss.
Other advantages, like expense, no maintenance, little space needed are notable but not related weightloss.
I use a set of dumbbells which I can change weight on in a couple of seconds.
So, in conclusion, use a good piece of variable resistance exercise equipment and vary the resistance and use weights to really help you achieve fat loss and weight loss.
