Our pages (links above) cover rehabilitation but we also discuss exercises to prevent injury, and increase flexibility & strength of shoulder muscles.

About shoulder muscles

The shoulder muscles are comprised of 6 interconnected, interdependent muscles in and around the shoulder area.

You would be hard pressed to perform many movements & complete even simple tasks involving the upper body without functional shoulder muscles.

Shoulder problems are fairly common with approximately, 15 million Americans seek medical attention for shoulder problems yearly.

Most shoulder problems seem to be due to age-related factors. However, it is not clear how much neglect & misuse of the shoulder actually accounts for what we see as “age-related.”

Certainly, the shoulder area is unstable enough to be easily affected or injured during the course of many activities, especially sports that demand shoulder involvement such as tennis or throwing a ball.

The most common shoulder problems include dislocation, separation, rotator cuff issues, frozen shoulder, fracture & arthritis.

Maintaining good shoulder health could certainly help prevent or delay those conditions. So, it would be wise to perform shoulder exercises that assure strong & flexible shoulder muscles, tendons, ligaments & bones.

You should also avoid movements that often lead to serious shoulder injuries like pitching baseballs.

Shoulder exercises are also helpful when recuperating from an injury or condition though a rehab program would vary from one aiming at maintaining shoulder integrity.

Oh, and again, though our focus isn’t on the how you look, certainly shoulder exercises for strength should help your appearance greatly.
