If you have some experience with Pilates, you’re probably aware of some of the different pieces of Pilates home equipment.

New to Pilates? As noted above, you don’t need specific pieces of equipment especially the high end ones but some of the equipment can boost workouts and increase benefits.

Pilates is a terrific exercise system for athletes and non-athletes alike. It is especially good for preventing injury, improving stability & balance, increasing strength, improving focus.

Also, just for sanitary reasons, using a mat instead of your floor just makes sense, no?

A Pilates chair is a small stool that helps support your body while you are doing specific exercises. The chair is pretty inexpensive, easy to store, an overall good prop for your home practice.

Pilates balls, (stability balls, see photo above), are quite good for general workout variety apart from Pilates sessions. For Pilates, stability balls are helpful for certain positions.

Another good piece of equipment is a set of resistance bands. I use them to round out strength training. For Pilates, resistance bands can help you attain difficult positions while keeping your form.

If you’re really serious about Pilates, consider a Pilates exercise machine like the “Reformer.” Most users probably go to their local gym to use one. The Reformer is a machine featuring straps and pulleys to increase resistance, lend support and increase the range of Pilates exercises.

Finally, you might consider a Pilates table. This is a fairly large table that supports movements that are difficult to do on the mat.
