Find Body Mass Index (BMI) to help assess your risk for various health problems.

The BMI table derives a number calculated from your height & weight.

When you properly calculate your body mass index you get a reliable indicator of body fatness for most people. This is useful as the number is used to screen for weight categories that may lead to health problems.

Move across to a given weight.

The number at the top of the column is the BMI at that height and weight.

Pounds have been rounded off.

For example, if you are 68 inches tall & weigh 184 pounds, your BMI is 28.

Interpreting body mass index graph number

BMI <19 = underweight

BMI 19 - 25 = desirable

BMI 25 - 30 = increased health risks

BMI 30 - 40 = obese

BMI >40 = extremely obese

BMI should be interpreted cautiously for more muscular persons since the consequences of extra muscle may be positive or, at least, not negative.

However, excess muscle, as you age, may serve no useful purpose unless you need those particular muscles for sports.

Moreover, many men retain muscle while also adding fat. Those men may be lulled into believing that their muscle serves as protection against fat risks. It’s not true, as many ex-football players learn. Such a profile often leads to high blood pressure & heart disease.
