Below is a general discussion of how a specific exercise might benefit major aspects of health &/or systems of the body.
Look below EXERCISES tab for specific exercise effects for particular exercises.
Generally, exercises can be grouped into types - aerobic, flexibility & strengthening - with exercises within each grouping bearing somewhat similar benefits.
However, even within groupings, certain exercise effects could be slightly different from exercise to exercise.
For example, although jogging & rapid walking fall under “aerobics” each offer specific health benefits & present different downsides.
At this point, we are compiling a list of the most important, beneficial common exercises with accompanying descriptions & will be adding more exercise in the coming months.
Where a particular exercise is not listed, simply determine under which grouping it tends to fall to determine what specific benefits come from performing the exercise.
Certain exercise seem to straddle groupings, be they sports or routines such as Yoga & so they are more difficult to pinpoint as to their exercise effects.
There are many ways to go about tailoring an exercise program that will give you the most bang for your buck.
Some considerations & strategies:
*Look for an illness or health issue & learn if benefits to exercise address that particular condition.
*Pick an exercise from each of the 3 main groupings &, if the effects of that exercise address a particular issue, include it. Then vary it up every few months to avoid burnout & injury
*If you have a particular goal, like improving the power of you golf swing or running faster on your basketball team, you will want to know what exercise effects that aim or goal
*Choose a sport you enjoy, determine health benefits from playing that sport, then supplement activity with exercise that benefit’s the rest of your body. That will round out your routine.
